Getting the Spreadsheet Template
The tradeGIST add-on requires the official Google Sheets™ template to function correctly. The template includes pre-configured sheets, formulas, and scripts that the add-on relies on.
- How to Get the Template: You first need to request a license from our main website. Once you do, the link to the official template will be sent directly to your email address along with your license key.
- Existing users: If you already have a license key, you can click on the "Get your copy" link under the "TEMPLATE" section in the footer of our website. Enter your license key, and the latest template link will be sent to your associated email address.
Make a copy of the template in your Google Drive™ and install the add-on on your copied file. Do not use the original template directly, as the add-on will write data and the copy keeps the original unchanged.
Enabling the Extension
After you have successfully made a copy of the template and installed the add-on, you must manually enable the extension within your specific spreadsheet. This step ensures that the add-on has the necessary permissions to interact with your data.
- Open your copy of the official template.
- Navigate to the top menu: Extensions > tradeGIST.
- Initially, you will see a single option: Enable extension.
- Click "Enable extension" to activate the add-on features for this sheet.
For your security, the extension will only have access to the specific spreadsheet where it has been explicitly enabled. You must click "Enable extension" on every new copy you make, or the automated menus and price updates will not appear.
Can I use tradeGIST with my own existing spreadsheet?
In short: No. The tradeGIST add-on is strictly designed to work with the official template.
As a high-performance engine, the add-on relies on a specific "contract" between the script and the spreadsheet. This includes:
- Named Ranges: Over 50 predefined named ranges (like
asset_configandc_ticker) that the script uses to read and write data without hard-coded cell references. - Sheet Architecture: Specific tab names and column orders required for the LIFO/FIFO matching logic.
- Hidden Metadata: Template-specific properties that manage your license validation and caching.
How to migrate your existing data
If you already have a portfolio in another sheet, the transition is simple:
- Get the Template: Request your copy via email.
- Bulk Import: Copy your historical trades and paste them into the tradeGIST Transactions sheet.
- Map your Assets: Add your tickers to the Configuration sheet.
- Generate: Click tradeGIST > Generate Trades to let the engine rebuild your history within the new, optimized structure.
By migrating to the official template, you benefit from "Delta Processing" (faster updates) and automated P&L/Tax calculations that are difficult to maintain in a standard, manual spreadsheet.
