Getting Started
Getting up and running takes three steps: install the add-on, make your copy of the official template, and enable the extension on it. The first time you run the add-on, a 14-day trial of the full Pro feature set starts — no license key, no card, and no limit on the number of transactions. After the 14 days, you continue either with a paid license or on the free tier, which keeps every feature but caps you at 30 transactions.
1. Install the add-on
Visit the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install. Grant the necessary permissions when prompted. This makes tradeGIST available across your Google Sheets.
2. Get your copy of the official template
You track your portfolio on your own copy of the official tradeGIST template, which comes pre-structured with everything the add-on relies on. There are two ways to get it:
- Start straight away: Open a blank Google Sheet and enable the extension via Extensions > tradeGIST > Enable extension. The add-on detects that the sheet isn't a tradeGIST template and invites you to make a copy of the official template — follow that link to create your copy.
- With a license: Get a license from our website and we'll email you the link to make your copy of the official template.
Click the Get your copy link under the TEMPLATE section in the footer of our website, enter your license key, and the latest template link is sent to your email.
Always work in your copy, never the original template — the add-on writes data into the spreadsheet, and the copy is yours to customize.
3. Enable the add-on on your copy
Open the copy you just created and enable the add-on from Extensions > tradeGIST > Enable extension. That's it — you're ready to start! Continue with the Quick Start guide.
For your security, the extension only has access to the specific spreadsheets where you explicitly enabled it. Click Enable extension on every new copy you make, or the tradeGIST menus and price updates won't appear.
Can I use tradeGIST with my own existing spreadsheet?
In short: No. The add-on depends on the template's exact structure — its sheets, columns, and named ranges — so it only works with the official template.
If you already have a portfolio in another sheet, the transition is simple:
- Get the template: Make your copy as described above.
- Bulk import: Copy your historical transactions and paste them into the tradeGIST Transactions sheet.
- Generate: Click tradeGIST > Transactions > Generate Trades to rebuild your full trading history. If any of your assets aren't declared in the Configuration sheet yet, a dialog lists them with a Copy button so you can paste them straight in.
Uninstall
Before uninstalling the add-on, turn off automated snapshots so tradeGIST stops running in the background: open the tradeGIST menu > ⚙️ Settings, turn off Automated snapshots, and save your changes.
To uninstall the add-on, navigate to the Google Workspace Add-on page and click the Uninstall button.
